MaxLinear approaches its October 22 third-quarter update with a straightforward question: can rapid growth develop into durable, balanced operating progress? The second quarter provided a stronger base, but it also left cash generation, inventory commitments and concentration as important checks on the quality of the expansion.
Second-quarter revenue was $168.847 million, 23% higher than the prior quarter and 55% higher than a year earlier. Infrastructure contributed $85.016 million, or half of company revenue, after representing 32% a year earlier. Broadband contributed 27%, connectivity 14%, and industrial and multi-market 9%. The shift gives the next report an important mix test: the expansion will look more durable if progress is not dependent on a single segment.
Margin evidence improved without removing the accounting-basis gap. GAAP gross margin rose to 57.8% and GAAP operating margin improved to negative 2.5%. Non-GAAP gross margin was 59.5%, while non-GAAP operating margin reached 22.3%. Operating cash flow was positive $4.809 million for the quarter, although the first half remained negative $4.063 million. Together, these measures make the October update a test of whether growth, profitability and cash generation can advance together.
The balance sheet adds context. Cash was $64.814 million at June 30 against $125 million of term-loan principal, with an undrawn revolving facility available for up to $130 million under its terms. Inventory had increased to $105.490 million, while inventory purchase obligations stood at $221.336 million. One customer represented 11% of first-half revenue, and the two largest vendors accounted for 54% and 15% of first-half inventory purchases. Those figures do not predict the next result, but they clarify where execution risk is concentrated.
The October 22 release is therefore about more than the top line. Revenue, like-for-like margin measures, operating cash flow, inventory, liquidity and concentration disclosures should be read together. Evidence of coordinated improvement would make the second-quarter gains more persuasive. A mixed bridge would leave the durability of the current growth mix unresolved.
