The Nasdaq set another record as Nvidia, Microsoft, and Broadcom rose, even with the 10-year Treasury yield above 5.3%.
The Nasdaq Composite finished at another record, closing at 27,477.31.
The S and P 500 closed at 7,773.95 after rising.
The Dow closed at 51,267.90.
The Russell 2000 finished at 2,847.055.
The Nasdaq stock screener counted 3,674 advancers and 2,805 decliners.
Cboe's consolidated volume display showed about 13.14 billion shares through three fifty Eastern.
Ten of eleven S and P 500 sector indexes were higher in Reuters' late-day snapshot.
Materials gained 1.31%, and communication services also finished higher.
Energy gained, while real estate fell 0.34%.
The S M H semiconductor fund rose 0.52%.
Nvidia gained 2.12%.
PTC jumped 33.49% after Schneider Electric agreed to acquire it for $205 a share in cash.
The 10-year Treasury yield finished near 5.31%, above Friday's close.
The V I X edged higher but remained subdued.
The dollar index edged higher.
West Texas Intermediate crude fell to $89.26 a barrel.
Brent finished near $100.27 a barrel.
Gold was slightly higher.
Services activity slowed in September, while its prices index rose to 74.0.
Reuters said markets put the chance of an October Fed rate increase at 24%, down sharply from a week earlier.
The G7's 100 million-barrel emergency release and recovering Middle East exports helped pull crude lower.
Reuters said attacks on vessels through the Strait of Hormuz kept supply risk active.
The close says investors still favored megacap growth, but higher long rates and service-sector costs stayed in the risk picture.
