SMH Research Note — Margins Set the Test

CAMS — SMH Research Note August 7, 2026

SMH has rebounded, but the next test is margin quality rather than demand headlines. Industry sales rose 20.6% from a year earlier, while third-quarter memory contract pricing was forecast to increase 32% sequentially.

AMD’s 7%–9% post-earnings decline showed the risk. Revenue growth was not enough to offset a gross-margin disappointment. Nvidia on August 26 and Broadcom on September 2 account for a large share of the fund’s near-term evidence, while SMH remains below its 50-day average near $591.

The full Level 2+ review examines concentration, the internal debate, valuation scenarios, market structure and the conditions that would change the thesis. Read the gated SMH Deep Coverage Review or join CAMS Premium Research.
