Philip Morris International enters its October 21 third-quarter update with strong group growth but an uneven regional picture. Second-quarter net revenue reached $11.2 billion, rising 10.4% from a year earlier and 7.6% on an organic basis. Adjusted diluted earnings per share were $2.20, while smoke-free products represented about 42% of revenue.
The portfolio transition remains the central operating story. International Smoke-Free shipment volume increased 8.0% to 44.7 billion equivalent units. International Combustibles revenue rose 9.8%, supported by pricing, which shows that recent group growth was not confined to one product line.
The U.S. business creates the clearest test. Second-quarter U.S. revenue declined 0.7%, gross profit fell 9.2%, and ZYN revenue was broadly stable. These figures do not erase the international progress, but they leave the next report carrying more weight for the breadth and durability of growth.
The company's September 8 adjusted 2026 earnings range was $8.35 to $8.50 per diluted share. At June 30, cash was $5.999 billion and borrowings and debt were about $49.1 billion. Continued cash generation therefore matters alongside operating momentum and the raised quarterly dividend.
Third-quarter results are scheduled for 9:00 a.m. EDT on October 21. The useful questions are whether International Smoke-Free volume can remain firm, whether U.S. revenue improves, how ZYN and manufacturing costs shape U.S. gross profit, and whether the full-year earnings range remains intact. The event was still future at the October 13 analysis cutoff, so no outcome is assumed here.
The full Philip Morris International premium review examines the broader operating record. This public note focuses on the narrower evidence test: whether international momentum can be matched by stronger U.S. execution while leverage remains in focus.
