CAMS Morning Market Brief.
Monday, September 28, 2026.
Good morning.
Both official Nasdaq calendars support a regular United States trading session today.
Oil and interest rates are setting the tone. Brent crude is near $107 a barrel, up about 2.5%, after President Trump rejected an Iranian proposal intended to reopen the Strait of Hormuz. W T I crude is near $94.50, up about 2.3%. More talks are expected this week, but no agreement has been announced.
The move in oil is feeding the bond selloff. The ten-year Treasury yield is near 5.21%, and the thirty-year yield is near 5.52%. Nasdaq futures are down about 0.9%. S and P 500 and Dow futures are each down about 0.4%.
Gold is not getting the usual haven bid. Spot gold is near $4,198 an ounce, down about 2.1%, as higher yields raise the cost of holding a non-yielding asset.
Friday's large indexes closed higher. The S and P 500 gained about 0.5%, the Dow rose about 0.9%, and the Nasdaq Composite added about 0.5%. Breadth stayed weak. Decliners outnumbered advancers on both Nasdaq and the New York Stock Exchange.
The Dallas Fed manufacturing survey is due at ten thirty Eastern. A separate operational risk also remains in view. Amazon Web Services said conflict-related physical damage left some resources and data in one United Arab Emirates availability zone unrestorable, and replacement work will take months. The financial effect has not been disclosed.
For the open, the clean test is whether oil and long yields ease together. If Brent stays near $107 and the ten-year yield stays above 5.2%, pressure on rate-sensitive shares is likely to remain. Better breadth would be needed to make any index rebound more convincing.
