Good morning.
Both official Nasdaq calendars support a regular United States trading session today.
Treasury yields are the main pressure point. The ten-year yield is near 5.2% after reaching a new 19-year high. The thirty-year yield is near 5.5%, after touching its highest level since 2004.
Oil is easing, but it is still expensive enough to keep inflation concerns alive. Brent crude is near $106 a barrel after a Houthi missile attack on Saudi Arabia revived supply concerns. W T I crude is near $94. The dollar index is near 101, up about 1% this week.
Thursday's United States session finished almost flat at the index level, but the market was weaker underneath. The S and P 500 and Nasdaq Composite were nearly unchanged, while the Dow fell about 0.3%. Eight of 11 S and P 500 sectors declined. Decliners led advancers by 1.9 to one. Exchange volume was close to its recent average.
August durable-goods orders arrive at eight thirty Eastern. Costco reported quarterly net sales of $93.9 billion, up 11.2%. Adjusted comparable sales rose 6.7%.
For the open, watch whether yields stay above 5% and whether oil can keep easing. A calmer bond market would help, but another push higher in yields or crude would keep pressure on rate-sensitive shares.
