Good morning.
Both official Nasdaq calendars support a regular United States trading session today.
The September employment report will set the tone. The Bureau of Labor Statistics releases it at eight thirty Eastern. A Reuters survey centers on a gain of 90,000 payrolls and an unemployment rate of 4.1%.
Futures lean higher before the data. At six eleven Eastern, S and P 500 futures were up about 0.4%. Nasdaq 100 futures were up about 0.7%, and Dow futures were up about 0.4%.
The 10-year Treasury yield was near 5.23%. Stocks still look sensitive to rates after this week's swings in global bond markets.
Oil is under pressure. West Texas Intermediate crude was near $89.32 a barrel, down about 3.8%. Brent was near $99.59, down about 2.7%. CNBC said the decline followed reports of European discussions about diesel and crude-reserve releases. CNBC could not independently verify the proposal.
Thursday's major indexes closed modestly higher, but decliners outnumbered advancers on both Nasdaq and the New York Stock Exchange. Energy, semiconductors, and technology rose, while health care and communication services fell.
Nike was down about 10% before the bell. Reuters reported that Nike expects fiscal 2027 revenue to fall in the high single digits and plans additional restructuring.
The jobs data will decide whether the modest bid in futures can hold. Easing yields would give more sectors room to participate. A renewed rise in yields would put the technology-heavy move back under pressure.
