Good morning.
Both official Nasdaq calendars support a regular United States trading session today.
Long-term Treasury yields are setting the tone as the fourth quarter begins. The ten-year yield reached 5.32%. The thirty-year yield reached 5.66%.
At four forty-eight Eastern, Dow futures were down about 0.5%. S and P 500 futures were little changed. Nasdaq 100 futures were up about 0.3%.
That split follows an uneven Wednesday close. The Dow fell about 0.9%, the S and P 500 slipped about 0.3%, and the Nasdaq Composite gained about 0.2%. Decliners outnumbered advancers on both Nasdaq and the New York Stock Exchange.
Technology was the only tracked broad sector to finish higher, while semiconductors also advanced.
Micron reported record quarterly revenue and guided next-quarter revenue above market expectations. Reuters said customer commitments under its supply agreements increased to $32 billion. Broader chip shares moved higher before the bell even as Micron itself slipped.
Gold was near $4,175 an ounce, while the dollar held near a two-month high. West Texas Intermediate crude had finished Wednesday near $91 a barrel.
Reuters also reported that Chinese refiners suspended oil-product exports beyond Hong Kong and Macau until further notice. It remained unclear whether permission would resume after the October 7 holiday.
Weekly jobless claims are due at eight thirty Eastern. The Institute for Supply Management releases its September manufacturing report at ten. The September employment report follows Friday at eight thirty.
Near the open, the question is whether strong chip demand can offset tight financial conditions. If the ten-year yield stays near 5.3%, a narrow technology-led tape may remain vulnerable to weak breadth.
