Good afternoon.
Both official Nasdaq calendars support a regular United States trading session today.
The morning's risk-off setup is still intact. Near eleven fifty-three Eastern, the Nasdaq Composite was down about 1.0%. The S and P 500 was down about 0.8%, the Dow was down about 0.7%, and the Russell 2000 was down about 1.0%.
Oil and interest rates remain at the center of the move. West Texas Intermediate crude was near $95.50 a barrel, up about 3.3%. The ten-year Treasury yield was near 5.3%. The V I X was near 16.2, up about 9.0%.
The rotation is uneven rather than indiscriminate. The energy sector fund was up about 0.8%. The technology fund was down about 1.2%, and the semiconductor fund was down about 1.7%. Nasdaq's official stock screener showed advancing rows narrowly outnumbering declining rows, so the selloff was not uniform across the snapshot.
Nvidia is the clear exception inside the chip group. Its board authorized a $150 billion increase to the share-repurchase program. That raised the remaining authorization to $235 billion, which the company expects to use through fiscal 2028. Nvidia shares were up about 2.1% near midday, even as the semiconductor fund remained lower. The authorization adds future capacity. It does not mean those purchases have already happened.
The Dallas Fed added another reason to watch rates. Its September production index jumped to 29.5. The raw-materials price index rose to 52.2. That combination points to faster factory output and heavier cost pressure in the survey.
The rest of the day hinges on oil and yields. A turn lower in both would give the broader market room to stabilize. If both stay firm, the large indexes may remain vulnerable even if individual leaders hold up.
