Good afternoon.

Both official Nasdaq calendars support a regular United States trading session today.

Stocks were solidly higher near twelve twelve Eastern. The Dow was up about 0.9%, the Nasdaq Composite was up about 0.6%, and the S and P 500 was up about 0.6%.

The lift had two clear supports. West Texas Intermediate crude fell about 2.4% to $92.32 a barrel, while Brent crude fell about 2.8% to $97.46. The technology sector fund gained about 1.1%, and the semiconductor fund gained about 1.4%.

Rates still limit the room for error. The ten-year Treasury yield was near 5.20%. The Russell 2000 was slightly lower even as the large indexes advanced. The V I X was near 15.3, down about 2.4%.

August durable-goods orders were virtually unchanged at $338.6 billion. Orders excluding transportation rose 0.3%, while nondefense capital-goods orders rose 1.2% to $100.5 billion. That is firmer business-investment detail than the flat headline suggests.

Costco supplied the clearest earnings reaction. The company reported quarterly net sales of $93.9 billion, up 11.2%, and adjusted comparable sales rose 6.7%. Costco shares were up about 2.7% near noon.

There is still a live infrastructure warning inside the artificial-intelligence story. Reuters reported that Oracle issued a force-majeure notice tied to potential power delays at the Project Jupiter data-center campus in New Mexico. Oracle said the project remained on schedule, and Blue Owl said the notice did not change the financial commitments.

The afternoon test is simple. A continued equity advance with crude below $100 and no fresh surge in the ten-year yield would support the rebound. If oil or yields turn higher again, the market will have to prove that today's gains can survive without that relief.
