Good afternoon.
Stocks were higher late this morning, while faster service-sector price growth and a 10-year Treasury yield near 5.32% kept inflation pressure in view.
At eleven fifty-three Eastern, the S and P 500 was up 0.52% and the Nasdaq Composite was up 0.78%.
The Dow was little changed, while the Russell 2000 was up 0.32%.
The Nasdaq stock screener showed 3,673 advancers against 2,805 decliners.
The services index eased to 54.9 in September from 55.4 in August. Its prices index rose to 74.0, while new orders remained in expansion.
The 10-year Treasury yield held near 5.32% and stayed above its prior close.
Most tracked sector funds were positive. Energy was up 1.11%, and communication services was up 1.00%.
Real estate was nearly flat, while the S M H semiconductor fund was up 0.17%.
Microsoft was up 1.75%. Melius upgraded the stock, citing enterprise demand for artificial-intelligence security and governance.
Nvidia and Broadcom were also higher.
A Reuters report citing Morgan Stanley estimated a 34% net United States data-center power shortfall through 2028, equal to 32 gigawatts.
The report said Nvidia and Broadcom's forecasts were not at risk in Morgan Stanley's view, while memory, optical, power-management, and analog suppliers faced more exposure to deployment delays.
West Texas Intermediate crude was near $90.68 a barrel, and Brent was near $101.75.
For the afternoon, the advance has to keep its positive breadth while absorbing higher yields and service-sector costs.
