CAMS Closing Market Recap.

Good evening.

Technology held up, but the rest of the market faded into the close. The S and P 500 fell to 7,652. The Nasdaq Composite rose to 26,861, while the Dow fell to 50,906. The Russell Two Thousand slipped to 2,801.

The split ran deeper than the index headlines. Nasdaq's after-close screener showed 2,147 decliners against 1,484 advancers. New York Stock Exchange listings had 1,508 decliners and 1,093 advancers. Listed-share volume was about 6.51 billion on Nasdaq and 5.14 billion on the New York Stock Exchange.

Technology gained about 0.6%, and semiconductors also rose. Consumer staples lost about 1.5%, while health care and industrials also fell.

The inflation report looked friendlier in the morning. August P C E prices rose 0.3% from July, while core P C E rose 0.2%. That relief did not last in the long end. The 10-year Treasury yield finished near 5.3%, up about 4 basis points, while the 2-year yield was 4.891%.

The dollar index edged higher to 101.51, and the V I X rose to 16.37. West Texas Intermediate crude gained to $90.61 a barrel, Brent reached $103.50, and gold was near $4,186.

A I infrastructure produced one clear company story. H P E and Vultr disclosed a $1.2 billion order for A M D Helios A I racks. Both H P E and A M D gained. The order confirms a named customer deployment, but it does not establish how much revenue goes directly to A M D.

The risk backdrop stayed complicated. The Bank of England warned that rapid A I-related debt issuance is widening capital-market exposure to the sector. It also pointed to high energy prices and sovereign bond yields as connected financial-system risks.

The closing read is a narrow market with stubborn rate pressure. Technology was resilient, but weak breadth and losses across most sectors kept the session from looking healthy.
